When you register for the MS 24 Hour Mega Swim, you receive your very own secure, online fundraising page. It is one of the easiest and most effective ways to fundraise since sponsors can donate securely online via credit card and will automatically be issued with a tax-deductible receipt via email.
To access your fundraising page, click the Login button at the top of the page and type in the username and password you created when you registered.
Your fundraising page is a great way to track all your donations and keep your sponsors up to date on your progress.
Alternatively, just copy and paste the link to your fundraising page into an email and send it to all your contacts or just ask them to visit www.msmegaswim.org.au, click the 'Donate' button at the top of the page and search for your name.
If you would like advice on using your online fundraising page, please contact us.
Running a special event is a great idea way to fundraise on your own or with your team. Below are some ideas to get your started.
Set up a morning tea, lunch or afternoon tea at work, home or school and ask everyone who attends to make a donation.
Many local businesses, such as hardware stores, supermarkets and garden centres, allow charity groups to hold sausage sizzles outsides their stores, or have one at work at lunch time. Approach your local butcher, baker or grocery store for donations of sausages or bread.
These work well in workplaces or schools where those in casual dress make a gold coin donation , or get whacky with a 'crazy tie day' or 'loud shirt day' etc.
Organise your own raffle. Ask local businesses for prizes and ask others from your local area to help sell tickets.
You receive the entry fees and the venue benefits through bar sales.Charge extra for clues and answers, hold a 'true/false' competition or hold a small raffle at the event to fundraise even more.
Get your friends around and donate a percentage of the winnings towards your fundraising efforts (or charge for chips).
This is good for home or work. Suggest a gold coin donation for every %$#! spoken!
Ask friends or workmates to volunteer to have their head shaved or wax their chest or legs if a certain amount of money is raised.
Organise a ball with dinner and entertainment for your work or social group. Allow plenty of time to organise this and to spread the word!
A set entry fee covers food, green fees and any extra goes toward your fundraising effort.
Put unwanted or donated items for auction on eBay and donate the money to your fundraising goal. Ask your sponsors for items you can sell.
If held at a bar then charge an entry price and have a set list of cocktails available for a pre-arranged amount of time.
Hold a golf tournament with friends, family or work colleagues. Raise extra money with a 'closest to the pin' or 'hole in one' competition.
How many lollies in the jar? People guess with a gold coin donation (that goes to you) and the winner takes the jar!
Organise these through your friends or work colleagues. Sports such as pool, darts, soccer and golf are popular choices.
Many cinemas open their doors to charities for a movie screening, with a percentage of ticket sales to go towards your fundraising.
Instead of buying lunch or breakfast, make it at home and donate the money you would have spent towards achieving your fundraising goal. Try to include others in your office to do the same with meals or coffee.
Run an event or competition where people follow clues around the city or neighbourhood with a team of others. Run it through local pubs and finish with the final destination being a pre-arranged party. The entry fee goes towards your fundraising.
Auction yourself off for a day to the highest bidder. Ask friends to volunteer themselves as well to help you in your fundraising.
We can provide:
When you register online you automatically receive a fundraising kit, and if you plan to collect cash and cheque donations in person, you can request a receipt book via email. Collecting donations via receipt books is a great way to personally communicate your goal (and appreciation) to your sponsors face-to-face. Then when someone sponsors you for the MS 24 Hour Mega Swim, you can write them a tax deductible receipt for donations of $2.00 or more on the spot!
It can be useful to have a receipt book at your workplace for colleagues that give you cash in person. Display a sponsorship tally sheet at work and your co-workers can pledge to support you and your swim.
Use the deposit slip in the back of your receipt book to bank all cash and cheque donations at any Westpac branch. Once you have finished fundraising, send your receipt book(s) (used or unused) back to MS at the address on the receipt book, as we must account for each receipt in the book to the Australian Tax Office.
You can also bring your receipt book(s) with you on event day and drop them off at the registration desk when you check in for your MS 24 Hour Mega Swim.
Spread the word about the MS Mega Swim & MS Mega Squash & Racquetball events by printing your own posters. Just fill in your details and put them up on the notice boards at your school, workplace, gym or favourite local business.
Many companies now offer 'matched funding' as part of their corporate social responsibility programs, where they support their employees' charitable efforts by matching their fundraising dollar for dollar. Even if there is currently no matched funding program in place, your employer may be more than willing to make a donation to support your efforts.
Talk to your HR department and ask them if your company matches funds raised by their employees. Let them know that you are part of a team that is swimming for 24 hours in the MS 24 Hour Mega Swim and that you hope to achieve your fundraising goal to support people living with multiple sclerosis. Face to face is the best way to communicate your message, your fundraising goal and to ask for their support, but if this isn't possible, send an email or call the appropriate person (and follow it up).
MS can supply any information or official documentation you may need. Make sure you let us know if your employer agrees to match the money you raise, and we'll send your company a tax-deductible receipt and a letter of thanks following the event to express our gratitude to you and your company.
If not through matched funding, your employer may like to make a company donation, promote fundraising for your or your team in their internal communications, organise a corporate team, arrange for staff to volunteer or fundraise for the MS 24 Hour Mega Swim, pay for staff entry fees or organise company branded merchandise. They may also be interested in sponsoring an event (link to sponsorship page).
If you need support or more information on how your company might be able to support you or your team, please contact the MS Events Team.
Yes, you can get a receipt. Any donation of $2 and more is tax deductible (go to our donation page if you'd like to donate). A receipt will be issued to your preferred email address. Participants taking part can also request a receipt book for offline donations.
All cash or cheque donations that you receive in person can be deposited at your local Westpac Branch using the deposit slip in the back of your receipt book. Once you have banked your donations, go to your fundraising page using the 'Login' button at the top of the page. From here, enter the amount under offline donations. Don't forget to send back your receipt book to the address on the front of the book, or drop it off at the registration desk when you check in on event day. If there is no address on the receipt book, please contact us.
Please remember that your receipt books (used or unused) must be returned to MS when you are finished fundraising, as we must account for each receipt in this book to the Australian Tax Office. Please post it back to the address on the front of the book or if you are finished fundraising by the date of the event, bring the book/s with you and drop off at the registration desk at the event when you check in for your MS 24 Hour Mega Swim.
If you have any questions not covered here, please feel free to get in touch with the MS Events Team via our contact page.
